The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) continues to make significant strides in India's digital procurement landscape. With a sharp focus on inclusivity, efficiency, and innovation, June 2025 was a month of massive milestones --- from landmark procurement values and policy reforms to enhanced participation by MSMEs, startups, and women entrepreneurs.

At Bidz365, we bring you a curated snapshot of everything that matters, backed by actionable insights and opportunities for sellers, buyers, and consultants alike.

₹13.89 Lakh Crore and Counting: GeM's Growing Influence#

The Government e-Marketplace has crossed a phenomenal ₹13.89 lakh crore in Gross Merchandise Value since its inception. This achievement not only reflects the increasing trust among government buyers and sellers but also showcases India's growing reliance on digital procurement as a strategic governance tool.

Why it matters:

  • Enhanced transparency and efficiency in procurement
  • Reduced corruption and middlemen
  • Level playing field for all categories of sellers

Women and Startups: Powering Inclusive Procurement#

June spotlighted how GeM is actively reshaping procurement for underrepresented groups:

  • Over 1.84 lakh women entrepreneurs are now active sellers.
  • 8% of all GeM sellers are women-led businesses --- they've collectively fulfilled orders worth ₹46,615 crore.
  • 31,000 startups are participating, aided by tailored onboarding and exemption policies.
  • The SWAYATT Initiative (Startups, Women and Youth Advantage Through eTransactions) has successfully onboarded 6,300 women-led businesses and 3,400 startups.

🔍 These stats are more than numbers --- they reflect India's push toward equitable procurement.

Transaction Reforms: Easing Business for Sellers#

The platform is now even more accessible to small and emerging sellers, thanks to the following seller-friendly changes:

  • 97% of transactions on GeM are now charge-free
  • Transaction fee reduction by 33%, with the new rate being 96% lower than earlier
  • Fee cap lowered to ₹3 lakh for orders exceeding ₹10 crore (previously ₹72.5 lakh)
  • Caution Money Deposit (CMD) reduced by 60% for businesses with a turnover below ₹1 crore
  • Full CMD exemption for startups, SHGs, SC/ST-owned MSEs, and women-led businesses

These reforms have lowered the entry barriers and made GeM an increasingly attractive destination for Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs).

Policy Highlights & Milestones#

Designed to foster competitiveness and transparency, the revamped e-auction rules are now active. These reforms will help streamline public asset sales and disposal mechanisms.

FY 2025--26 Procurement Target: ₹7 Lakh Crore#

Building on FY 2024--25's record of ₹5.43 lakh crore (a 35% growth YoY), GeM is now setting its sights higher. The government aims to hit a ₹7 lakh crore target --- a bold move that signals both trust and scalability.
